Stunning 3.15 carat Reddish Orange Diamond Sold by Christie's

A very rare 3.15 carat fancy reddish orange diamond was sold yesterday at Christie's Magnificent Jewels auction in New York. The stone is the largest diamond of this color ever to be graded by the GIA, and it greatly exceeded its $700,000-$1,200,000 estimation, fetching a smashing $2,098,500.

Experts at the Christie’s auction house emphasize that very few red diamonds larger than one carat are known to exist. Among the worlds largest is a circular-cut 5.03 dark red diamond, currently on display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Another famous red diamond is the so called Moussaieff Red, which you can read more about here in our encyclopedia.
