The Shirley Temple Blue Diamond Recut and Upgraded

Shirley Temple cherished all her life the 9.54 ct blue diamond set in a ring flanked by four rows of baguette diamonds and purchased by her father in 1940 to commemorate her performance in the movie "The Blue Bird".

Two years after she passed away, in April 2016, her family put the ring up for sale at Sotheby’s auction in New York.  Estimated to fetch between $25 and $35 million it didn’t find a buyer but a few months later the family sold it to the Windsor Jeweler, who believed in the potential of the stone. After months of studying, the cushion-modified brilliant-cut Fancy Deep Blue diamond with a VVS2 clarity, the jeweller cut the stone in order to try to improve its clarity and color.

A risky move because it involved loosing wheight with no guarantee of result but a succesful bet!  The new and improved 9.30ct blue diamond has been graded by the GIA as an internally flawless stone with a richer blue color.
