The Spirit of the Rose
[Alrosa] The Spirit of the Rose is a short ballet about a young girl who dreams of dancing with the spirit of a souvenir rose from her first ball but also the name given to an a unique fancy diamond. The stone’s weight is 14.83 carats and according to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the diamond is one of the largest pink diamonds in the world. It took a whole year for Russian cutting masters to transform the 27.85 carat rough diamond --mined in Yakutia by Russia’s Alrosa in 2017 into its polished form, a Fancy Vivid purple-pink, Internally Flawless diamond. The Russian diamond mining company, Alrosa has not yet decided how it will sell the gem, via auction or otherwise, but set the sale date for later this year.
