Fancy Colored Diamonds: The Blockbusters of 2016

[Langerman Diamonds] After a year of new auction records, desire for the world's rarest natural colored diamonds has never been greater. 

As Ehud Laniado, Cora International chairman, stated: "Diamonds are beautiful and a treasure of nature, but more than this, they offer an economy of rarity that is making them increasingly attractive to savvy investors.”

Taking a look back at the top sales of 2016, here are some of the block busters: 

APRIL 2016: CHRISTIE'S - HONG KONG

The "De Beers Millennium Jewel 4" - Fancy Vivivd Blue - Oval shaped - weighing 10.10 carats

Sold for: $31,8M ($3.14 M/Ct)

MAY 2016: SOTHEBY'S - GENEVA

"The Unique Pink" - Fancy Vivid Pink, VVS2 Clarity,Type IIa - pear shaped - weighing 15.38 carats. The Unique Pink is largest to ever be offered at auction. 

Sold for: $31,6M. ( $2 M./Ct)

A "Fancy Vivid Yellow Diamond", VS2 clarity - briolette shaped -  weighing 81,40 carats.

Sold for: $ 2,83M. 

A Fancy Vivid Blue diamond, Pear shaped, weighing 7,32 carats.

Sold for: $17.1M.

MAY 2016: CHRISTIE'S - GENEVA

"The Oppenheimer Blue" - Fancy Vivid Blue, natural color, VVS1 clarity - emerald cut - weighing 14,62 carats. The Oppenheimer Blue is set to be the largest Vivid Blue diamond ever to appear at auction and the most Expensive Jewel ever sold at auction.

Sold for: $57,5M.

 

 

MAY 2016 : CHRISTIE'S- HONG  KONG

"The Aurora Green" - Fancy Vivid Green natural color diamond, VS2 clarity & no fluorescence, - weighing 5,03 carats. The stone is the largest Fancy Vivid Green natural color diamond ever graded by the GIA as of Jan 2016.

Sold for: $16,8M. ($3.34 M./ Ct) 

JUNE 2016: CHRISTIE'S - NEW-YORK

OCTOBER 2016: RIO TINTO

Spectacular 2016 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender - The 2016 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender, named the “Chroma Collection” because of its potency of colour, included 57 pink, 4 red and 2 violet diamonds and weighted  a total of 58.24 carats.

 

 

NOVEMBER 2016: SOTHEBY'S - GENEVA

Fancy Intense Pink diamond,VVS1-clarity, weighing 17.07 carats.

Sold for: $20,8M. ($1.5M./Ct) 

Fancy Intense Pink diamond, IF Clarity,  natural color, weighing 13.20 carats 

Sold for $16,2M.

Sold for $13,7M ($1,77M/ Ct) 

NOVEMBER 2016 : CHRISTIE'S - HONG  KONG

A Fancy Vivid Blue , IF clarity - Marquise - weighing 4.29 carats.

Sold for: $11,8M (2.75M./ Ct)

 NOVEMBER 2016: CHRISTIE'S - GENEVA

The Light of Memory -  Fancy Vivid Pink, natural color, VS2 clarity - weighing 9.14 carat

Sold for $18,1M.  ($2M./ Ct)

Fancy Light Pink diamond ring weighing 40.30 carats. 

Sold for $7,53M.
